On Monday, November 3rd, 2014 a violent act of matricide, attempted murder and attempted suicide rocked the community of Ponta Porã in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. 28 year old Diogenes Teixeira Gimenez attacked and killed his fifty year old mother, Mary Alice Teixeira da Silva with a pickaxe and hammer. He also attacked and attempted to kill his brother who tried to intervene but was able to escape despite being wounded. Military police were called and they found Diogenes attempting to kill himself but had no specified just how. He quickly confessed to the crime and is in custody, although it has not been established just what the motive for the murder was.
Residents of the area are shocked as they say that there was no warning of something like this about to happen, that Diogenes was a calm young man who went to church every Sunday. The da Silva curse strikes again.
