On the dawn of May 12th, 2013, emergency services were called to a crime scene on Maria Madalena Rodrigues Sampaio Street in Foz do Iguaçu – Paraná, Brazil.
The victim, 20 year old Ademir Adão Cichorski, of partial Japanese descent, worked in a Sushi restaurant. He was inside a Volkswagen Golf, already deceased, and was killed with a 12 Gauge shotgun. The police found two shell cases on the ground, indicating two shots were fired. If both of them hit his head I have no idea since the report wasn’t specific on that, but could very well be the case, considering the amount of damage.
The police have no suspects (as usual) and no apparent motives behind the murder. His family claimed he was an honest working young man, so it would be unjust to presume Ademir was involved in any illegal activities, although we can’t rule that out. This could be, however, a robbery, we just don’t know. Either way, he just made his way into the homicide statistics. Just another person out of an average of 150 that are murdered every day in Brazil. More people are killed in Brazil in just one day than in my country in a whole year (around 120 annually here in Portugal). I know the population difference is significant but still, holy shit.
Brazilians, you guys gotta do something about this, and i’m not just talking about filling your overcrowded prisons with more Da Silva’s, i’m talking about going to the root of the problem. Lack of education, lack of equal opportunities, and poverty. For every drug dealer or thug that is killed/lynched, 2 more will take his place. It’s an interminable cycle. So unless you fix the cause, you won’t prevent the consequence. Instead of investing billions of Reais in football stadiums, ironically enough, built not far from where hundreds of thousands of people live in deplorable conditions in slums, why not invest in a better education and providing humane conditions for the over 50 million poor in your country? I am almost certain the violence would decrease… But hey, Samba and Football are good for the postcards, eh? Not to mention those Brazilian booties.
