Caruaru got off to a bad start this month (or good, depending on your point of view), with two murders in only the first two days. Jose Gomes da Silva, a farmer, was the second murder victim of the month and the 82nd murder victim so far this year for Caruaru, Brazil. The forty-three-year-old was found on an isolated road in rural Caruaru with his throat slashed so severely and deeply that it was almost severed. He was also reported to have had suffered blunt force trauma and is believed to have been hit with a rock or blunt object before the assailant slashed his throat open. No suspects are in custody and the family of the victim maintains that he was a good man who had received no death threats or had any enemies. But with a name like da Silva…
