Police in Brazil are quickly adopting the “we are a hammer and every problem is a nail” mindframe that’s merrily propagated by the badge bearers in North America.
Much of the context in this video from the state of Amazonas in Brazil escapes me due to my not understanding the Portuguese language, but there appears to be some kind of non violent, but high tension situation outside of an establishment at night. A man in red t-shirt holds what looks like a beer bottle in his hand and is engaged in an apparent argument with a man in yellow top. The police then show up to resolve the situation and resolve it they do – the police way. By riddling the red shirt guy senseless with bullets. It’s that typical one-fix-fits-all solution to every problem as perceived by police.
The arguing guy was probably drunk and probably getting on everybody’s nerves, but that still shouldn’t warrant the immediate death sentence. It’s just not right for the cops should always overreact and leave a trail of blood behind. The badge should not be a license to be a judge, jury and on the spot executioner. It’s simply another proof that my calling the cops “civilian killers” is not only warranted, but spot on.
