Bikers will surely appreciate this post, although those who don’t ride may find the video boring.
The incident took place on the BR-280 highway, outside of São Francisco do Sul in Santa Catarina, Brazil. Two cousins riding a motorcycle narrowly cheated what would have been certain death if the vehicle that clipped them swerved just a few more inches to the left. You actually hear the ping when the car tapped the back of their bike before slamming into a car behind them, throwing both down into a ravine. The near death experience was caught on rider’s helmet cam.
The rider, who’s a student at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina said he had just bought the camera and this was the first time he used it – sick!
According to the Federal Highway police, three people were seriously injured in this accident. One was the driver of the Polo that caused the accident. The other two were the driver and the passenger of the car he slammed into. All three victims were taken to local hospitals in São Francisco do Sul where they are listed in serious condition.
It would appear that the accident was caused by an unsafe attempt to overtake the truck. During passing, the Polo driver had to floor it to squeeze back into his lane in front of the truck. The tight squeeze probably clipped the truck which fishtailed the Polo and sent it uncontrollably in to the other lane.
Unbelievably close call. It just proves for the n-th time what we’ve always said at Best Gore – you just never know… It’s a beautiful day, you’re cruising along, yet tragedy could be just milliseconds away. Had these guys not been on a motorcycle, but in car, they would have found themselves in a nasty high speed head on. An incredibly fast ambulance response, though.
